What is Salmonella || Causes and Symptoms of Salmonellosis Americans refuse to kiss chickens

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has called on its citizens to refrain from kissing ducks, chickens and birds.

CDS has warned citizens about the spread of a type of bacterium called Salmonella from poultry in the country.

According to a BBC Online report, CDC and public health officials are investigating the outbreak of Salmonella after 183 people were diagnosed in 43 US states. This infection is associated with home-raised chickens.

Addressing the citizens, Sidis said, ‘Do not kiss or hug the chicken. It can spread germs in your mouth and make you sick. ‘

The CDC warns that poultry, especially chickens and ducks, can carry the Salmonella virus. Even if it looks healthy and clean, germs can remain in it. These germs can easily spread to the areas where these chickens and ducks roam.

Salmonella infection causes symptoms of fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain and vomiting. In most cases the patient recovers without any treatment. However, if the situation becomes complicated, it can lead to death.

According to the CDC, one-third of those who have recently fallen ill are under the age of five. In mid-February, 43 people were hospitalized. None of them died.

The CDC advised that hands should be washed after contact with chickens and children should be prevented from catching chickens.

The CDC estimates that the Salmonella bacterium infects 1.5 million people in the United States each year, killing 420 people. These bacteria can be found in raw or undercooked meats, eggs and other products.
